Privacy policyCaurora support
A manual iPhone camera for aurora and night-sky photography.
Start with a steady camera
Use a tripod and the 3-second or 10-second timer. Choose a preset as a starting point, then adjust your exposure to suit the sky. Preset values are limited to what your selected lens actually supports.
Manual controls
Tap a control to expand its dial. Tap A to enter manual mode and drag to adjust. ISO and shutter switch together because iPhone custom exposure locks both. Tap M on either to restore automatic exposure. Focus and white balance can be controlled separately.
Why is the maximum exposure shorter than the preset?
Exposure duration and ISO limits depend on the iPhone and selected physical lens. Caurora uses native camera exposure; it does not stack frames to imitate an unsupported duration. The Timelapse preset sets consistent camera values, but does not record a sequence.
Camera unavailable
Open iPhone Settings → Apps → Caurora and enable Camera. Close other camera apps and reopen Caurora. An iOS simulator has no camera and cannot take photographs.
A photo did not save
Keep Caurora open. Enable permission to add photos in iPhone Settings → Apps → Caurora, return to Caurora and tap Save photo. Check available device storage. The unsaved image stays only in app memory and is lost if you quit or discard it. RAW and its processed preview are saved together as one Photos asset.
Focus and horizon
In manual focus, tap higher for farther focus and lower for nearer focus, or adjust the focus dial. Focus peaking highlights edges as a guide. The horizon uses measured device gravity and hides when pointing almost straight upward.
Forecast unavailable
Check your connection and tap the forecast retry message. NOAA's Kp measures global geomagnetic activity, not the chance of seeing aurora from your location. Latitude, cloud cover and darkness still matter.
